The 47th Smithsonian Folklife Festival kicked off with a bang this morning.
This morning, the Secretary of the Smithsonian joined dignitaries and participants from around the world to open the 47th Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
To kick off the 47th annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival, chefs Péter Utasi and Ilona Kollár of the Bácska region of Hungary demonstrated the preparation of one of Hungary’s most popular festival foods, truly a celebratory snack, the lángos.
While exploring the 2013 Festival, you may take note of the numerous representations of the peacock in the Hungarian Heritage: Roots to Revival program.
The Festival staff, interns, and volunteers have been hard at work through the weekend.
The Folklife Festival has three fantastically diverse programs lined up this year: Hungarian Heritage; One World, Many Voices; and The Will to Adorn.
Come down to the National Mall on June 26 for the opening of the 2013 Folklife Festival!
